Although we're waiting for Lollipop on current devices, Sony has started rolling out an Android 4.4.4 KitKat update for the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet bringing new features. Both devices will get software treats announced on the Z3 range at IFA 2014 in Berlin. See also: Sony Xperia Z3 Compact review.
"Our initial intention was to wait until early in the New Year to extend the experience for Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet users, but both demand and excitement meant we just couldn't wait," said Sony in a blog post.
PS4 Remote Play does what it suggests, allowing the smartphone or tablet to be used as a remote screen to play games. You simply connect over the same Wi-Fi network and you can use a DualShock 4 controller.
LG's flagships smartphones support High-Res audio playback and now the Xperia Z2 devices will join the Z3s with this feature which will also upscale regular music. However, Sony is currently the only one to provide support for DSD files.
Those are the two main features but there are other things arriving for Z2 owners including the Smart Social Camera portfolio (Sound Photo, AR Fun, Multi camera and Face In). It also brings Sony's Ulta Stamina Mode for battery saving, Quick Settings, Smart Screen Rotation and Record Screen.
Last but not least is the addition of proximity security meaning that anyone with a SmartBand, SmartBand Talk or SmartWatch 3 can set their phone or tablet to unlock when they are nearby thanks to Bluetooth Unlock.
