Samsung Gear Live release date, price and specs

Samsung didn't wait for Google I/O to kick off to unveil its first Android Wear smartwatch, the Samsung Gear Live, which will be on sale later today. Also see: Best smartwatches 2014.

Samsung Gear Live release date 

Google has put the Samsung Gear Live up for pre-order on the Google Play store and the device will start shipping on 7 July.

Samsung Gear Live price 

Samsung's previous smartwatches have been criticised for being rather expensive, so we hope the Gear Live will fall in line with its competitors in the Android Wear space at around £200. It is a little more expensive than the LG G Watch at £169.

Samsung's Gear Live smartwatch has a 1.64in Super AMOLED display, and is powered by a 1.2GHz processor paired with 512MB of RAM. It has 4GB of internal memory, and a 300mAh Li-ion battery which Samsung describes as "all-day."

It's also got a heart rate monitor for those popular fitness applications, as well as Bluetooth 4.0, accelerometer, gyroscope and compass. It's IP67 certified dust and water-resistant, and comes with a changeable strap available in black or 'Wine Red'.
