Gamescom 2014 is almost over, but the excitement doesn't end there. Here, we round up the 10 most exciting announcements from Gamescom 2014. See also: PS4 vs Xbox One comparison review

1. New features coming to Xbox One

During its keynote at Gamescom 2014, Microsoft announced that it will be rolling out several new features to the Xbox One console in "the coming months."

The key focus appears to be new social features, including a new "Friends" section that's set to roll out to all Xbox One users to allow players to see what their friends are up to.

Snap Center and Threaded Messages are designed to help players stay within their games while communicating with others. The Media Player app will be coming to Xbox One, allowing users to play media filed from a USB device, as well as a new Digital TV Tuner accessory for some European countries including the UK.

2. New features coming to PS4

Like Microsoft, Sony also used Gamescom 2014 to announce updates to its PlayStation 4 console. The upcoming system update 2.0 will bring a new Share Play feature, which Sony describes as a "virtual sofa." Share Play lets you create a local co-op experience but online by inviting a friend to join your game, even if they don't own a copy of that game themselves. Players will need PlayStation Plus in order to take advantage of this feature, though.

New broadcast and video share features are also coming with system update 2.0, which includes both uploading your game play footage and a dedicated YouTube app.

During the event, Sony also announce that its PlayStation Now cloud-based gaming service will be coming to the UK in 2015. Find out more about PS Now in our PlayStation Now release date & features UK article.

3. Limited Edition Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Xbox One

Xbox One Call of Duty bundle

For Call of Duty fans, the new Limited Edition Xbox One Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare bundle is going to be an extremely tempting investment. It looks pretty awesome, set for release in November alongside the game itself. It'll cost £429 and comes as a 1 terabyte Kinect-free console with a controller and, of course, the full game download of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Day Zero Edition.

4. Xbox One Special Edition Sunset Overdrive bundle

A second bundle announced for Xbox One by Microsoft at Gamescom 2014 is the Special Edition Sunset Overdrive bundle, which will get you the gorgeous Cirrus White Xbox One Console and controller, as well as a full game download of Sunset Overdrive.

5. WilD PS4 exclusive game

The creator of Rayman, Michel Ancel, used Gamescom 2014 to announce a new game a part of his new studio Wild Sheep Studios. WiLD will be exclusive to PS4 at launch, and is an open-world game set 10,000 years ago that lets you play as any creature you choose within its huge universe.

It looks like it's going to be pretty incredible. Check out the trailer of WiLD below.

6. Rise of the Tomb Raider Xbox One exclusive

Tomb Raider is getting a sequel, and it's going to be exclusive to Xbox (at first, at least). Tomb Raider 2, or Rise of the Tomb Raider as it's officially named, should arrive by Christmas 2015.

You can watch the first trailer for the new game below.

7. Hellblade

Ninja Theory, the studio behind Enslaved, Heavenly Sword and DmC: Devil May Cry, unveiled its next game called Hellblade, which will initially launch on PS4.

"Hellblace will be an experience focused on delivering a deep character in a twisted world, with brutal uncompromising combat," reads the studio's blog post.

Watch the trailer below and you'll see why we think it's set to be a big hit.

8. Until Dawn

Here's one for fans of horror games. The trailer for Until Dawn was shown off during Gamescom 2014 and it looks terrifying. Until Dawn was originally unveiled by Supermassive games as a Move game back in 2012, but after a lengthy disappearance it's back as a teen horror game that will take advantage of the PS4 and its Dualshock 4 controller.

It's an adventure that'll please fans of Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls as it uses object interaction and a variety of choices that'll change the way the story plays out.

9. Tearaway Unfolded for PS4

Tearaway was originally a PS Vita game that made the most of the portable console's touch and gesture capabilities, but it looks like it's coming to the PS4 in the form of Tearaway Unfolded, which will allow players to use the DualShock 4 controller's touchpad to interact with the beautifully designed papercraft world.
