For the 13th year running Microsoft's Bill Gates tops the list of the world's richest people, according to Forbes. Former Microsoft buddy Paul Allen stays in the top 20 at number 19, with rival Oracle CEO Larry Ellison at number 11.

51-year old Gates, who last year announced his retirement from the company he founded 31 years ago, has a net worth of $56 billion. Allen has $18bn, and Ellison 421.5bn.

Google's Sergey Brin (age 33) and Larry Page (34) are racing up the table at number 26 (each with a net worth of $16.6 billion).

42-year-old Michael Dell, with $15.8bn comes in at number 30.

Microosft CEO Steve Ballmer has $15bn, and is one place below Dell.

MySpace owner Rupert Murdoch is number 73 on the list with $9bn.

Eric Schmidt (51), with $6.2bn, developed Java at Sun Microsystems in the 1980s but made most of his fortune when he became chief executive of Google in 2001. He also joined the board of Apple last August.

Apple's Steve Jobs (52) is way down the list at number 132, but with $5.7bn in his jeans pocket. Jobs is also the largest single shareholder in Disney after the sale of his Pixar animation company.
