ADSL is too expensive to catch on.
That’s the overwhelming verdict of respondents to this week’s PC Advisor poll.
Some 78.9 percent stated that £39.99 per month – the current charge for the company’s Openworld home service, is too much.
A mere 4.4 percent said they had already registered while more than one in ten (13.4 percent) claimed ADSL was not yet available in their area.
Research company GartnerGroup indicates that users won’t be prepared to pay more than £25 a month for ADSL broadband services. Industry watchers believe it is unlikely rivals will be able to undercut BT’s offering.
Meanwhile BT is currently faced with a massive backlog of pre-registered ADSL subscribers, but has vowed to clear the 100,000 orders within the next three weeks and is giving a two week timeframe for subsequent subscribers.
