Mail order computer consumables firm ABC Mail Order has closed its doors and left the keys with the police – literally.
PC Advisor recently received letters complaining about the lack of service from ABC. Then last week we found out last week that ABC, run by Joseph Bakewell in Cumbria, had closed.
PC Advisor set the dogs loose trying to find out what happened, and private investigation firm AMF International Services told us Bakewell had done a bunk.
"Mr Bakewell decided to call it quits and is believed to be out of the UK," AMF told us. "He left the keys to his home address with the police and abandoned his two vehicles at the address. He hasn't been seen since."
However, the plot thickened when we rang ABC's ex-accountants. It turns out that Bakewell may not have left the country after all, but is still unavailable for comment.
"He's just walked away lock stock and barrel," said Mr Mounsey, office manager for accountants Armstrong Watson in Penrith . "He owes us a suitably large amount." The last information Mounsey had was that Bakewell had gone to ground at a friend's house in London. However a phone number for the address could not be found.
