Apple will reveal its iPhone 5 and an iPad Mini on 12 September if we are to believe iMore.

The website this is the date for a joint launch of both devices, citing 'sources who have proven accurate in the past'. The site even goes as far as to say the iPhone 5 will hit the shops nine days later on 21 September. See also: Complete guide to the iPad mini.

iPhone 5 fully assembled

There's no date for the iPad Mini but a third device, the next generation of iPod Nano, will also be unveiled with the smartphone and tablet. These dates wouldn't be too far off Apple's launch of the iPhone 4S which went on sale on 14 October.

Whether these dates are correct is debatable but what we do know is that Apple won't send invites out until very close to the event. Something certain is that the firm will launch iOS 6 the autumn which would benefit from some new hardware to show it off.

The iPhone 5 will supposedly have a similar design to the previous two versions but with a larger screen and a smaller 19-pin docking connector. Yesterday, images were leaking claiming to be of a fully assembled iPhone 5.

Apple's iPad Mini will use a smaller rumoured 7.85in screen size compared to the iPad's 9.7in, despite the fact Steve Jobs said the firm wouldn't make a 7in tablet.
