While iOS can be used to manage a Gmail inbox without the need for a third party app, features are a little thin on the ground. Sure, you can send and receive emails, delete them, flag up interested messages and perform other basic tasks, but if you want to work through your inbox faster, or have a large quality of mail to deal with you’re going to need something to help you out. Enter Mailbox.
The appropriately named app differs from some alternative Gmail clients not only due to the fact that it is free, but also due to the way it works. Everyone receives all manner of emails throughout the day. Some need to be dealt with immediately, some need to get your attention at some point in the day, while others can wait until later in the week. Mailbox has been designed to cater for this.
Swipe gestures can be used to delete messages, mark them as read or archive them and there is the intriguing ability to re-order messages. This means that you can ensure that a message that needs to be dealt with appears at the top of your inbox as well as being flagged up to ensure that you do not forget about it.
Messages can be viewed in a helpful conversation view which is not entirely dissimilar to text messaging, and this can help to make back and forth messages easier to follow. But there is another gesture which is what helps to make Mailbox unique. Swipe a message to the left and you can ‘snooze’ your email.
This may sound a little strange, but all it means is that your selected message is hidden form your inbox until a later time. If you feel you are not able to deal with a particular email at the moment, you do not need to risk forgetting about it or worry about setting and alarm. Instead you can snooze it until the next day. The message will initially disappear, but it will reappear the next day for your to deal with.
