Adobe Fireworks CS5 is a capable bitmap and vector graphics editor. The program hasn't seen a great deal of change since CS4, but there are a couple of new features that may come in handy when you're starting a new project.
Device Central integration lets you choose profiles for mobile, HDTV or other consumer devices, for instance, which will automatically set up the appropriate screen size and resolution.
And you're now able to save frequently-used projects as custom templates to share with others on your design team.
Elsewhere, pixel-precise rendering improves the sharpness of vector and bitmap graphics. The Common Library now includes more form elements, animations text and graphic symbols, and you're able to customise these and then export FXG directly to Flash Professional, Flash Catalyst and Flash Builder. And Adobe Swatch Exchange (ASE) file support allows you to match colours more precisely by sharing your swatches with other Adobe apps.
Note: in order to download the Adobe Fireworks CS5 trial you must create an Adobe account, if you don't have one already. Follow the download link, click Download Now, then Create an Adobe Account and fill in the form. Once you've finished you can log in and download Adobe Fireworks CS5, along with any other CS5 components you might like to try.
Fireworks is worth a look if you need a professional graphics editor, just don't expect much change from CS4. The increased integration through FXG and ASE support is welcome, but otherwise there's little new here
