Since launching in 2007, Amazon's Kindle devices have established themselves as the market leader when it comes to e-readers. We particularly love the latest Paperwhite, but the regular Kindle and both Oasis devices (2017/2019) are definitely worth considering.
If you're having a tough time deciding, check out our Kindle buying guide.
They're our favourite devices for reading, taking the top four spots in our best e-reader chart.
However, rolling without a case for these devices can be a risk, particularly on some of the more slimline models. If you're planning on travelling, a cover of some sort is a must to stop unnecessary damage while on-the-go. Here, we round-up the best cases across all the current Kindle models.
1. Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (2018) Water-Safe Fabric Case
The update to the Kindle Paperwhite (10th Gen.) made it waterproof, which means you might also want to pair it with a waterproof case.
Of course most synthetic cases available are waterproof anyway, so you're not getting anything revolutionary here, but the fabric texture is a nice touch and should help with grip (though we haven't personally tried it).
This case handily puts your Kindle to sleep on closing and wakes it on opening. It comes in three shades: yellow (pictured), charcoal black and blue.
2. Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Leather Cover
Amazon’s own selection of cases may be the best and most obvious place to start. The Kindle Paperwhite Leather Case offers streamlined, lightweight and stylish protection for your device.
Amazon’s case also promises hinge and strap-free protection, and conveniently puts your Paperwhite to sleep when the case is closed.
The Paperwhite Leather Case case is also available for the 2018 Paperwhite in Black, Indigo Purple, Merlot and Red – while additional colour options for the previous model include shades like Fuchsia and Royal Purple.
You can buy it now for US$39.99, but it's not currently available on the UK site.
3. Noreve Kindle Paperwhite (2018) Leather Case
French company Noreve offers a broad range of styles for the 10th generation Kindle Paperwhite. You can choose from genuine hand-crafted leather styles with different grains or go for synthetic leather options too.
Not only can you choose from a broad range of styles, but also a broad range of colours. The price does vary depending on what you select.
4. Fintie Origami for Paperwhite
For Paperwhite owners who would still like the Origami style case for their Kindle, the best alternative may be with Fintie. The brand offers the Origami design with stunning patterns and graphics -- and at about a third of the price of Amazon's.
While these Fintie Origami cases are incompatible with the original Kindle and Kindle Touch, Oasis owners can find a selection of patterns and styles for 9th generation devices for £12.99/US$12.99 on Amazon.
5. MoKo Case for All-New Kindle E-reader
If you own the standard Kindle, MoKo offers a SmartShell Case that is designed specifically for the 6 inch display (8th generation version). MoKo promises a particularly bulk-free build.
The case offers synthetic leather protection on the front and hard shell protection on the back. The interior features a microfiber surface to protect the screen as well. Like Amazon’s Origami case, the MoKo case also puts your device to sleep on closing.
MoKo cases are available with different artwork options for the front and have a lifetime warranty.
6. Caseable Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite Case
Caseable cases offer an eye-catching range of patterns and graphics that are designed by international artists, particularly from Brooklyn and Berlin. They tout their “Made for Amazon” certification and offer a case that is compatible with all Paperwhite generations and original Kindle (5th, 7th and 8th generation).
Unlike the other cases on this list, Caseable’s design secures the device in place using elastic straps.
Caseable’s cases are made of scratch and shock resistant “finely pored polyester” and a suede leather interior. The front cover also has a panel to hold notes, which some readers might find useful.
Owners of the regular Kindle and Paperwhite (2018) can also personalize their cases using their own images using Caseable’s online platform.
7. Fintie Folio for Kindle Paperwhite
Here's another option from Fintie if you're looking for something with old world charm. It's made of synthetic leather case and has a branded design on the front.
The e-reader slots into the inner pocket, and is held in place with a velcro flap. Like many of the other cases on this list, it puts your Kindle to sleep on closing.
This fits all versions of the Kindle Paperwhite except the 2018 model. It's available in a number of groovy designs, while there's even more of a selection if you're in the US.
