If you keep track of VPN deals - as we do - then you'll know that discounts are available all year round. The offers are a percentage taken off the price of a subscription for a single month, so you'll always save big if you avoid those rolling one-month subscriptions.
However, go direct to the providers' websites or sign up through their apps and you won't get the best prices. That's because we've arranged special deals with them to get you bigger discounts.
Ivacy is currently offering the best deal. It's offering 88% off its five-year plan, but with our special coupon code you'll get a further 20% off, which works out at a crazy 91% off in total. Frankly we didn't think Ivacy would keep this deal going for long, so don't hang around if you want to take advantage.
You're probably already know why you want a VPN but just in case you're not fully up to speed, a VPN lets you unblock streaming services and other videos not available in the UK (or wherever you are) and also secures your Wi-Fi connection so is ideal when you're using open public wireless networks, such as in cafes, airports and hotels.
Using a VPN also gives you extra privacy online and offers protection when sending sensitive information to websites and services.
Best VPN deals
1. Ivacy five-year VPN subscription
Was: $9.95 per month
Now: $0.93 per month (around 74p) (91% off)
This great deal gives you 88% off the usual monthly price of Ivacy. Subscribe for five years and you'll pay the equivalent of $1.16 per month, which is about 93p.
However, you can get 91% off in total if you enter and apply the code ivacy20 after clicking on your preferred payment method at the checkout this reduces the price further to $0.93 per month, which is about 74p.
This makes Ivacy's one of the the cheapest VPN deals around, and you even get a password manager thrown in as well.
2. Surfshark two-year subscription
Now: £46.80 (£1.95 per month) (81% off)
Sign up for two years of this great VPN to get it for a bargain £1.95 per month.
Surfshark is one of the best-value VPN services and is one of the few which doesn't put a limit on the number of devices you can use with it at the same time.
3. CyberGhost VPN 18-month subscription
Now: £38.70 (£2.15 per month) (79% off)
Usually you have to take out a three-year CyberGhost subscription to get the best price. But there's now an 18-month offer which makes it £2.15 per month.
Ignore the message about "Get 6 EXTRA FREE months on the 1-year plan!" since this isn't true: it's £2.15 per month with no free months. If the six months really are free, then the monthly price for the first 12 months is £3.22, not £2.15.
You'll find CyberGhost at number four in our round-up of the best VPNs.
4. VyprVPN 2-year subscription
Now: £60 (£2.50 per month) (81% off)
VyprVPN's deal gets you 81% off the normal price, which means an up-front payment of £60 instead of £310.80 for a two-year subscription. That's just £2.50 per month.
(For some reason, this deal is marked as 72% off on VyprVPN's website, which is underselling the offer - it really is 81% off the monthly price of £12.95. The £222 price is a mistake: this would be the cost for 17 months.)
There are cheaper deals available, but note that VyprVPN owns and manages all of its servers, and is a great choice if your priorities are security and privacy.
If you don't want to be tied in that long, there's 71% off the 12-month deal which costs £45 and is the equivalent of £3.75 per month. (This is also marked up incorrectly on the website!)
5. PureVPN five-year subscription
Was: $10.95 per month
Now: $2.88 per month (74% off)
Get 74% off when you subscribe to PureVPN for two years. The $2.88 price is approximately £2.21. PureVPN currently sits at number three in our best VPN chart.
There's also a 'secret' deal which you can find on a desktop web browser. Simply click on the link above to get the deal described above, then wait around for a short while doing nothing on the site. When you make as if to leave - by moving your mouse pointer off the web page - a five-year deal should appear which costs $1.65 per month (approx. £1.30).
6. Express VPN one-year subscription (3 months free)
Now: £82.19 (£6.85 per month) (49% off)
Get 49% off ExpressVPN, a premium service one of our favourite VPNs.
When you click through to the deal, the £5.48 per month figure is the average cost when spread over 15 months. But if you consider the final three months to be free, the actual monthly cost for the first 12 months is £6.85.
7. Private Internet Access 2-year subscription
From: Private Internet Access
Now: £56.99 (£2.19 per month) (78% off)
Currently PIA is offering two months free, so you'll get 26 months for the price of 24. The £2.19/mo pricing is slightly misleading: that's the monthly cost if you spread the £56.99 payment over 26 months.
Whichever way you look at it, it's not a lot to pay for what is a great VPN service.
8. Hidden24 VPN three-month subscription
Now: £9.99 total for 3 months with code idg1709
Get Hidden24 VPN for just £3.33 per month for 3 months using the exclusive code idg1709.
VPN deals: What to look for
A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is designed to keep you safe from prying eyes online by preventing websites from knowing your true location and, to some extent, your identity. VPNs don't make you anonymous if your activity reveals who you are, such as logging into a website.
However, the technology can help protect your identity and sensitive information, particularly on public Wi-Fi networks. A VPN can also allow you to access blocked content. This can include BBC iPlayer when you’re travelling outside the UK, as well as Netflix in other regions like the US.
VPNs are subscription services, and the more time you commit the more it reduces the price.
Plans also tend to allow you to use the service on more than one device, including a PC, Mac and mobile devices.
We have plenty of guides to help you find out everything you need to know about using a VPN. You can take a look at our favourites in our best VPN round-up, find one that'll let you access US Netflix in our round-up of the best Netflix VPNs, or simply find out how to use a VPN here.
When is Black Friday 2020 - should you wait for a better deal?
Black Friday will take place on Friday 27 November, immediately followed by Cyber Monday on 30 November. Traditionally the biggest sales event of the year, it may yet throw up some even greater tech deals - but with so much uncertainty around finance and retail, and no guarantees regarding what discounts we will see, we advise you not to wait: if you see a deal you like, on a product you need, and you can afford the outlay, buy it today.
