Sony PS Vita Slim

Sony has announced its PS Vita Slim so here's everything you need to know about its UK release date, price and specs.

The PlayStation Vita launched back in 2012 and now Sony has brought along a new version. It's called the PS Vita Slim. Just like the PS3 slim, the PS Vita Slim is a more refined model so it's both thinner and lighter than its predecessor.

Sony PS Vita Slim: Release date

Sony has today confirmed the PS Vita Slim will launch in the UK on 7 February. So there's not long to wait before you can get your hands on it.

Sony PS Vita Slim: Price

The PS Vita launched at £229 for the Wi-Fi only model and the PS Vita Slim comes in a little cheaper. Sony has said it will sell for around £180.

Prospective buyers should bear in mind that the PS Vita is now available for a lot less.

So the PS Vita Slim is 15 percent lighter and 20 percent thinner than the original PS Vita (183.6 x 85.1 x 15mm and 219g), but that's not where the changed stop. Sony has also swapped the OLED screen for a lower grade LCD panel.

The PS Vita Slim has 1GB of internal storage meaning that games can be played without the need for a Memory Card like its predecessor. Sony touts a battery life of up to six hours gaming time for the PS Vita Slim which is more than the original.

If you're in the UK, you'll be able to get hold of the Wi-Fi model of the PS Vita Slim. Those wanting 3G data will have to opt for the original PS Vita.

In terms of other specs, the PS Vita Slim is the same as the original. It's got a quad-core Cortex A9 processor, 512MB of RAM, 128MB of VRAM and a screen has a resolution of 960 x 540.There's also front and rear cameras, stereo speakers and a microphone.

PS4 owners will be pleased to hear that the PS Vita Slim is capable of remotely playing games from the console. We won't be surprised if Sony starts selling bundles including both consoles.

Although the PS Vita Slim has been unveiled in a range of colours, its seems that only the black version will hit UK shops.
