Alienware has announced a new range of gaming laptops sporting Intel's 4th-gen Core 'Haswell' processors. We went along to a stylish launch event and spent some time getting hands on with the new Alienware 14.

In this video we see an Alienware spokesman demonstrating the 14, a truly powerful gaming laptop that launches today for £1,318 inc VAT. Check out the Alienware's stylish but chunky aluminium chassis, and the funky lighting designed to improve your gaming experience.

Alienware timed the launch of its new gaming laptops range to coincide with the launch of Intel's fourth-generation Core processors, also known as Haswell. Each of the new line-up of Alienware laptops has a fresh chassis design.

Alienware is launching three new laptops - the Alienware 14, -17 and -18. The numbers relate to their respective screen sizes expressed in inches, but you guessed that. Alienware has added in an all-new keyboard: we tried it for a bit and it felt nice - watch the Alienware staffer show it off in this video. You can also see the Alienware 14's screen it's a Full HD 1920x1080-resolution display.

With a Haswell Core i7 processor up to 16GB of RAM and the latest nVidia graphics cards (up to GeForce GTX 765M with 2GB GDDR5), performance on the 14 should rock.

On this video you'll see that the 14 looks similar to previous models. It offers a good combination of portability and performance, with a new one-piece aluminium lid with angled corners and added lighting.

You'll also see the innovative lighting setup for gaming. The keyboard and Alienware logo light up and there is a pin-stripe style light running around the edge. The trackpad is also backlit, which looks pretty cool - as you'll see.
