Palo Alto Musik speakers 6. Palo Alto Musik speakers

  • Rating: Rated 6 out of 10

The Palo Alto Musik speakers have been designed with portability in mind and as a result of that, audio quality has been sacrificed. In a nutshell, these speakers are for those who are looking for a quick and easy way to give their laptop speakers a decibel boost when on the move.

Focal XS Book 5. Focal XS Book

  • Reviewed on: 15 November 12
  • RRP: £260 inc VAT
  • Rating: Rated 7 out of 10

These speakers can rock and swing with some conviction – their main appeal, we’d contend. Stereo soundstaging and midband articulation are not so compelling, and the overall sound was a touch too sibilant for our tastes. Build quality is generally good although we would have preferred the materials to live up to the silver-finish metal promise.

Otone Audio Eclipse speakers 4. Otone Audio Eclipse speakers

  • Reviewed on: 4 April 13
  • RRP: £49.99 inc VAT
  • Rating: Rated 8 out of 10

You will struggle find to a set of speakers for under £50 that produce better all-round sound than the Otone Audio Eclipse speakers. Its only draw back is the colour scheme, which is a real shame because technically these are a great product.

Logitech Z553 3. Logitech Z553

  • Reviewed on: 9 April 13
  • RRP: £109 inc VAT
  • Rating: Rated 8 out of 10

We like the well-rounded and powerful audio performance of the Logitech Z553 speakers. While the design may not suit all tastes, and they're not designed for portability, they're well built. Multiple inputs and the control pod make the Z553 a great choice of sound system for your home.

JBL Jembe Desktop Speaker 2. JBL Jembe Desktop Speaker

  • Reviewed on: 1 February 13
  • RRP: £49.99 inc VAT
  • Rating: Rated 9 out of 10

The JBL Jembes are good-looking, compact speakers that take seconds to set up and don’t dictate what device you use them with: anything with a 3.5mm audio out is fine. We’d prefer longer cables or the convenience of the Bluetooth model, but have no argument with the lovely audio these two-piece speakers produce. A solid choice of desktop or laptop speaker.
