Nuance has announced the immediate release of Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10.
The NaturallySpeaking voice-recognition software is the best-selling program of its type and is available in a variety of versions including ones for the medical and legal professions where industry-specific terms are included in the program’s dictionary.
Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 will be able to operate up to twice as fast as the previous version of the software, claims its maker, with an accuracy level as high as 99 percent.
As well as being used for speech transcription, Nuance is proclaiming the benefits of Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 as a tool for making text entry significantly more efficient. For the past year, Nuance has been conducting an online typing test, open to all, to see how quickly and how accurately participants type.
The results showed that the average typing speed was just 35wpm (words per minute) with an accuracy of 58 percent. A sample size of 335,000 people was used.
Nuance says its speech-recognition software can easily outdo this result and has the ability to type at up to 160wpm with near total accuracy.
As well as typing verbatim what users say, the program can recognise commands such as 'compose email to John Williams at his email address dot com'. It can also understand and insert formatting commands and automatically save and name files.
Nuance is also pushing the idea of its software as a tool to navigate the desktop and the web, with suggestions such as 'search the web for Hannah Montana concert tickets' and 'find antique bracelets on eBay'.
Nuance NaturallySpeaking 10 Standard will cost £79.99 while the Preferred Edition costs £149.99 inc VAT.
