Creative has unveiled the Live! inPerson HD webcam that captures video using the H.264 encoding standard. designed for use with Voice over IP (VoIP) services.

The webcam, which will capture HD video at a resolution of 1920x180 pixels and 22 frames per second (fps) using the H.264 standard, which according to Creative, ensures the fastest possible video frame rate for HD video calling and alleviates the problems of the choppy, jerky video. Alternatively, users can opt for the MJPEG standard that captures video at 30fps. The webcam is also capable of taking still images at a resolution equivalent to a 12Mp camera and features a 'snapshot' button making it easy to take still images on the device.

The Creative Live! inPerson HD, which comes with an autofocus lens and quad microphones that feature noise-cancelling technology, also meets Skype's exact requirements for integration with the Voice over IP service, which is now owned by Microsoft.

"Just like you can't accept a phone call when the audio is poor, you can't have a great video call with poor voice," said Steve Erickson, Vice President and General Manager for Audio and Video at Creative Labs.

The Creative Live! Cam inPerson HD webcam is available form Creative's online store now, priced at £119.99.
