Logitech has announced a laptop cooling stand that has a pair of speakers built into its sides. The Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700, on show this week at CES in Las Vegas, raises up the laptop away from the desk or other surface it's resting on.
This allows the laptop's internal fans, usually situated on the underside of the laptop, to do a more efficient job of exhausting heat away from the processor and other components, thereby preventing overheating. It also means a laptop resting on the user's lap won't get so uncomfortably hot.
The Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700 supplements the laptop's own processor fan with a fan of its own that operates almost silently. This is powered from a USB port on the laptop it's helping cool. We'll be interested to see how this impacts on the laptop's battery life.
Logitech is mainly known for its speakers and the Lapdesk N700 has a pair of 2in high neodymium ones embedded into its sides. They draw no more than 2 Watts of power. Controls for these are situated on the lefthand side of the N7900's polyester and polyurethane airmesh sides.
The Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700 can be used with any Windows or Mac laptop with a screen size of up to 16in. It costs £69.99 and comes with a three-year warranty. It goes onsale in the UK in February.
