LG has introduced a network storage device that features a Blu-ray Disc re-writer as an additional backup option. The LG SuperMulti NAS N2B1D drive is available as either just as a Blu-ray drive or with up to 2TB of storage.

Dual-layer Blu-ray discs can store up to 50GB and LG thinks not everyone will also require a 1TB or 2TB hard disk as part of their NAS (network-attached storage) setup. The drives are in any case hot-swappable, so can be added or upgraded at a later stage.

The NAS drives offers gigabit Ethernet support for 10/100/1000Mbps, remote access/multiple user access and iTunes music server support.

The units also include three USB 2.0 ports to add additional storage devices, plus a built-in 4-in-1 memory card reader for SD, MMC, MS, xD cards. They also offer network Print Server support and FTP Server functionality.

A LCD display shows important information and any alerts.

Prices range from £244.99 for the base model and rise to £34.99 for the 1TB version and £379.99 for the 2TB capacity drive.

The NAS drives are available from a number of online retailers including Amazon.
