Samsung's new Galaxy A range offer high fashion design and advanced functions, according to the firm. They supposedly allow social networking fans to capture meaningful moments and share their daily lives. Going by the marketing material, they are designed for taking selfies (below).

The announcement is in line with a growing trend of selfie smartphones such as the HTC Desire Eye and Nokia Lumia 735.

"The Galaxy A5 and A3 offer a beautifully crafted full metal unibody, slim design, superior hardware and the best possible social media experience," said JK Shin, CEO of Samsung Electronics. The 5 Mp front facing camera found on each device is a key feature for those selfies and at the back is a 13 Mp camera with an LED flash.

The Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5 share many specifications including a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, Android 4.4 KitKat, 16 GB of internal storage, NFC (on 4G LTE models), a microSD card slot and Bluetooth 4.0 LE.

There are a few differences between the phones you should be aware of. The main one being screen size so the A5 has a 5in screen (720p) while the A3 has a smaller 4.5in screen with a qHD (540p) resolution.

The A5 also has more RAM at 2 GB compare to 1 GB on the A3 and it also has a larger battery at 2300 mAh compared to 1900 mAh inside the A3. Battery life should be similar considering the difference in screen size and resolution.

We already mentioned the slight difference in thickness and the size difference means that the A5 is understandably heavier at 123 g compared to 110 g.
