MSI has launched a 14in Intel Centrino 1.4GHz processor laptop that it calls "ultra-slim". At 24.5mm thick, the MSI X400 isn't the slimmest of slim laptops, however.

The 1.5kg X400 laptop is, though, pretty light for a 14in model. As with Apple's MacBook Air, which packs a 13.3in screen and weighs 1.3kg, you forego a built-in DVD drive but can buy an external version to use alongside it.

The X400's 14in widescreen display has a resolution of 1,366x768 and is clad in either a black or a white casing measuring 349x234mm.

MSI has primed the X400 laptop with 2GB of RAM and offers it with a choice of a 320GB or 500GB hard drive.

The laptop also features wireless and Bluetooth connectivity, two USB ports, a 1.3Mp webcam and an LED backlit screen, which MSI says is less drain on the battery.

Priced from £569, the MSI X400 will be available this month from MSI.
