Nvidia Shield Android TV: What it is

Nvidia's Shield Android TV box is an entertainment console designed for the living room, but it's both faster and more feature-rich than many rival media streamers.

The Shield Android TV box has its own user interface, and is the only smart TV console that can stream 4K content at 60fps, according to Nvidia.

It can be used to stream TV shows, films, music and a range of popular apps, but perhaps most interestingly brings gamer-friendly features such as GeForce Now (explained below) to the living room. Gamers will also be able to play next-gen Android games and PC GameStream games on Shield.

Nvidia says the Shield Android TV box has built-in Chromecast and Google Voice, and with the Shield remote or controller can allow you to use Google voice search and commands to quickly access content.

Nvidia GeForce Now: What it is

GeForce Now is a new subscription-based game-streaming service that allows unlimited streaming of more than 50 popular PC games, including such titles as The Witcher 3, Saints Row: Gat out of Hell and Resident Evil: Revelations 2.

Games are streamed from online servers at up to 1080p, 60fps, and mean gamers no longer need to wait for games to download before they can start playing - they'll be ready to go within 30 seconds.

GeForce Now launches with- and will be free on the Nvidia Shield Android TV box for the first three months, and £7.49 per month thereafter.
