Apple iWatch, Samsung Galaxy Smart Watch, Google Nexus Smart Watch rumour round-up
As well as the new products we know about, the rumour mill is always spitting out scraps of information about what tech manufacturers might launch next. Here we look at the smart watches from Apple, Samsung and Google that could be coming your way later this year.
Apple iWatch smart watch
Apple is reportedly testing various designs for a smart watch companion to its iPhone. The firm is interested in launching a smart wristwatch that will wirelessly link to the smartphone and allow some functions to be accessed. Our money’s on this one being known as the iWatch. If Apple makes a smart watch it will no doubt run iOS and could be controlled by virtual assistant Siri. The smart watch is rumoured to have a 1.5in display, which is smaller than in our illustration.
Samsung Galaxy Smart Watch
Unlike Apple, Samsung has confirmed that a smart watch is on the way, but it’s been a long time coming. No further details have been provided by the manufacturer, but it’s highly likely that the watch will adopt Samsung’s Galaxy branding. Our illustration shows the Galaxy Smart Watch with a similar design to its Galaxy phones and tablets, with the familiar physical Home and touch-sensitive buttons. It will probably run Android with the TouchWiz UI.
Google Nexus Smart Watch
Search giant Google is also thought to be working on a smart watch. In 2011, Google applied for patents for a ‘smart watch’ with a ‘flip-up’ dual-screen display and a ‘tactile user interface’. Beyond this, there are no details hinting at what it will be like. We’ve based our design on the Nexus 4 smartphone and wouldn’t be surprised if, like other Google devices, the smart watch carries the Nexus branding.
