Oregon Scientific has launched a new model in its Action Cam range of portable video cameras. The flash memory-based ATC3K Action Cam has the same cylindrical shape as previous Oregon Scientific headcams and is able to accept removable memory cards with capacities of up to 4GB.
The £99 ATC3K Action Cam is described as both shockproof and waterproof and can be attached to most types of protective headgear or to a handlebar for hands-free use. Such helmet cameras are popular with extreme sports fans for recording their exploits.
The use of removable memory cards such as the Secure Digital card format used in the Oregon Scientific Action Cam makes it far easier for users to get the footage of their daredevil exploits off their camcorders and on to their PCs for quickly editing and uploading to YouTube or sharing on Facebook.
The ATC3K Action Cam has a wider viewing angle than its predecessors, at 48 degrees, and also has an improved CMOS for clearer image capture. It is waterproof to a depth of 3 metres and takes AA batteries. It comes with an internal memory of 32MB.
A 4GB SD card should be enough to store as much as 2 hours of footage, captured at 30fps (frames per second) and VGA (480x640-pixels) resolution.
The Oregon Scientific ATC3K Action Cam goes onsale imminently and will carry an RRP of £99.95.
