Getac is launching another toughened up laptop, hot on the heels of the Getac B300 rugged laptop announced a few days ago. The Getac E100 is a slightly different beast, however.

We’ve tested a couple of rugged laptops recently. The E100, we believe, may be the first ruggedised tablet. The 800MHz Getac E100 weighs a mere 1.4kg, has a carrying strap and shouldn’t suffer much damage if dropped as its corners each have a protective rubber cushion.

Intended to be more portable and practical than other durable notebooks, the E100 comes with up to 1GB RAM to power Windows XP Tablet Edition. It has an 8.4in toughened anti-reflective screen, a shock-resistant hard disk and sealed ports to keep out the damp. It can be used for up to 5 hours between charges and offers 802.11b and g wireless LAN as well as Bluetooth V2.0.

Designed for vertical markets rather than set for a consumer launch, the Getac E100 ruggedised laptop has a range of customisation options, most notably security-related feature options such as SmartCard authentication.

The Getac E100 rugged tablet will be demonstrated at the CeBit trade show in Germany next week. Full details of the product can be found here.
