Microsoft's Windows 7 gives PC users the ability as to personalise the interface of the OS to suit them, as well as a number of features designed to making computing easier. As part of these features, Windows will display recently opened programs in the Start menu offering quick and easy access to them. However, because these are simply recently opened programs, the shortcuts will change on a regular basis, particularly if you use a lot of applications. With this in mind, Microsoft ensure Windows 7 users are able to 'pin' programs either to the Start Menu or the taskbar so that no matter what other applications you open, the one you've picked will always be easily accessible. We've already shown you how to pin programs to the taskbar but here's how to pin programs to the start menu.
Open the Start menu and click the All programs link at the bottom.
Scroll down to the program you require and then right-click. From the menu displayed, select Pin to Start Menu.
An icon for this program will now appear in the Start menu and will not disappear, no matter which other programs you open. Alternatively, you can also drag an icon from the recently opened programs list in the Start menu to the top to pin it to the Start menu.
To unpin any program from the Start menu, simply right click and select Unpin from Start menu.
