This article is about Nintendo's most recent Nintendo Direct video - if you're looking for details on the company's E3 plans, here's how to watch the Nintendo E3 event live.

Nintendo hosted a special dedicated Pokémon Direct event on 6 June to show off its plans for the franchise for the rest of 2017. For the first time, Pokémon is coming to the new Nintendo Switch, and new Nintendo 3DS Pokémon games are on their way.

You can recap the announcements by watching the video above (the announcements start from 30:00 so skip ahead).

Considering that the presentation was just eight minutes long, a lot was said. We now know that Pokken Tournament DX, the Pokémon fighting game, will be the franchise's first foray onto Nintendo's latest console. It's set to be released on 22 September of this year.

Shortly following the release of the new Switch game, the Pokémon Company will release Pokémon UltraSun and UltraMoon, to expand on its successful 3DS titles Sun and Moon. They'll stick to the 3DS though.

Additionally, the original Pokémon Silver and Gold will be coming to the 3DS later this year.

Nintendo decided to host the presentation just days ahead of E3 2017, and has promised that fans will be able to play Pokken Tournament DX during the gaming show in LA from 13 June. It also promises to reveal more about the new Pokemon UltraSun and UltraMoon games during E3.

Speculation is quite varied. Some rumours point towards the launch of the Pokémon Stars companion to Sun and Moon, and others suggest we're getting Pokémon Snap for the Nintendo Switch.
