If you're planning to sign up to the free trial of Amazon Prime, you'll need to make sure that you cancel your subscription before you get charged. Here's how to cancel your Prime membership and unsubscribe from Amazon Prime.

We must say, we rather like Amazon Prime, so we'd recommend carefully considering before you cancel. £79 sounds like a lot, but when you divide that by the 12 months you're paying for you'll find that it's less than a Netflix subscription, and with that you'll get Amazon Prime Video, Music, free next day delivery and more.

And if you haven't yet signed up for the free trial at all, you can do so by clicking here. Just be sure to come back and read about how best to cancel to make sure you don't get charged.

However, if you've used Amazon Prime for almost your full 30 days of the free trial and you're sure that it's not going to give you enough value for your cash, you can find out how to cancel your Amazon Prime membership susbcription before you get charged by following this step-by-step guide.

How to check if you are subscribed to Amazon Prime

You might think you’re not signed up, but Amazon’s approach means it might have slipped past your radar. Plenty of unwitting Amazon Prime customers have complained they had no idea they were signed up and had already been charged.

Amazon Prime credit card statement

First check your credit card or bank statements to see if Amazon has charged you £79 for Prime membership.

Amazon Prime membership confirmation

You can also check whether you have an Amazon Prime account by signing into Your Account on the Amazon website. Click on Your Prime Membership in the drop-down menu to find out whether you are subscribed to the service. If you are, you can cancel your membership there and then; see below for step by step guide.

When you sign up for Amazon Prime, your membership is set to automatically renew each year. You can turn off this automatic renewal at any time - even during a free trial period.

Here are our step-by-step guides to cancelling or changing your Amazon Prime subscription.

5. Amazon offers you two options: Change to (the cheaper) Prime Instant Video (no free next-day delivery), or Keep Current Membership. Note that the £5.99 a month Prime Instant Video fee is equivalent to £71.88, which rather obviously suggests that you might be better off with the full Prime membership (including free next-day delivery) for just another £7.12 in the year. Of course, you can cancel the monthly £5.99 Instant Video subscription at any time during the year so this option does give you more flexibility.

How to get an Amazon Prime refund

Paid members who haven't placed an Amazon Prime eligible order are eligible for a full refund. You can't receive a refund if any of the household members have placed an Amazon Prime eligible order.

When you cancel a paid Prime membership you may automatically receive a refund (see above).

You can also apply for a refund by visiting: amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/contact-us and making your request via the phone, email or online chat.
