XP Pro to Windows Vista Home Premium Upgrade

  legalrep 15:50 03 Jan 2008

I have just purchased via ebay the Windows Vista Home Premium Upgrade to upgrade my system currently running XP Pro. I have just been told I can not do this is this correct and if so is there any way around it?

That's right, you cannot. XP Pro can only upgrade to the Business or Ultimate versions of Vista. XP Home upgrades to the Basic or Home Premium versions. You're stuck I'm afraid.

All Vista DVD's contain all the versions of Vista. What gets installed depends on the Product Key you enter. Your DVD will have the wrong key sequence.

Beta thanks for the response I'm afraid I'm not the most knowledgeable with computers what do you mean by a clean install? Will I loose all my programs etc and what does "slmgr" command mean? Sorry to sound stupid!

Can you do this with an upgrade disk I thought you would have to buy the full program which is more expensive?
