Windows Vista Hidden Files

How do I change Windows Explorer's settings so that I can see ALL folders and files, including the file extension etc.? My previous system was W98SE.

Eg, From "Computer" double click on the C drive and right click on any file. Choose properties and select show hidden files and folders.

I tried this option but the properties tag only displays 3 more tags "General", "Security" & "Details". No "show hidden files & folders" box to tick! I expanded the various sub-sections under each of the 3 tags under "properties" but still no "show hidden files & folders" box to tick. My system is Windows Vista Home Premium with all updates installed.
Any more ideas?

In an Explorer window, press Alt, Tools, Folder Options then the View Tab.
