Is Windows 8 still usable?

I am looking at buying an ex-demo laptop which has Windows 8 as an operating system, would I need to pay to upgrade it to Windows 8.1 or Windows 10?

Free update to 8.1 but paid for Win 10. The free Win 10 offer expired last year.

W8 has been dropped by Microsoft but not sure when the support stops.

From PCA.

Thanks for the advice all. I assume that with an ex demo laptop I might need to buy a new battery?

Only one way to find out would be to try it. I hope you are getting it at a decent price.

W8 was the worst windows ever and W8.1 is not much better. W10 is better so maybe go for that upgrade.

Now if it is one of those laptops that only have a 32 Gb hard drive on them you will struggle. So if you have not bought it yet maybe best if you don't.

My Laptop comes with the battery inside the laptop so not sure how you would change that if yours is the same.

Maybe the make and model number of your laptop might help us.

Thanks Govan1x. It is an HP Envy 15. Price is a little over £400.

Processor:Intel® Quad Core™ i7-4700MQ Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.40GHz)

Memory: 8GB DDR3 SDRAM

Storage:1TB SATA Hard Disk Drive

Cant quite get the model number it should come after the HP Envy15.

This one shows a proper model number but it cant be the same as yours as it is 4 years old. So there should be another model number on it. Also not sure about the battery as it looks like it is screwed in.
