it will find the manufactures driver if there is one, it found my hitachi, i connected it, next time i ran windows update it had it available as an optional update, it updated it to the second driver too.
If there is a manufacturers driver, regardless of what it is for, I always use that. If I have no manufacturers driver I use the windows one. Personally I have found some of the windows drivers cause problems. (especially the ones found in windows updates for graphics).
