Following my recent thread in the helproom click here, I've had a rethink and decided to try Vista Home Premium and increse my RAM to 4GB. I would like to retain XP Pro whilst I get used to Vista. The question is - Can I install Vista on my C: drive alongside XP or would I be better putting in on my D: drive (a separate drive)? Would this be a straightforward install or is there any special procedure to follow? I'll back up both drives before starting the install just in case!!

For dual booting I'd personally go with a second HDD.

The Vista install should be painless (make sure you select the correct drive!) and will also add XP to the bootloader.

I'm triple booting as follows.

HDD1: XP Pro (
HDD2: Vista Ultimate
HDD3: Ubuntu
HDD4: Media drive
HDD5: Test

Answer

Much easier with XP on first

As you alread have a second drive you can start at stage four.
Do not use the same drive letter as XP.
