User Account Control

Using Vista Home Premium.

I have deliberately turned off the utterly pointless User Account Control.

However, I'm still getting regular nag messages in the task bar telling me it's turned off!

How do I turn off the nag messages?

You have to tell the system to stop telling you, it is described towards the end of this guide. click here

demonstrates your misunderstanding of its purpose - it's far from being utterly pointless, although I can understand your irritation as a home user.

UAC is helpful in a networking environment, especially when a machine might have more than one user account as it prevents users, or external sources, from modifying system settings and installing unwanted software - it's a very powerful and valuable security tool in that respect.

If you turn it off you would be well advised not to login as an administrator - your computer will be at greater risk if you do. The fewer the priviledges your account has without UAC the more secure you'll be.
