Upgrading to Vista Ultimate

My 7 year old Evesham PC "blew up" and I've now got an Evesham Solar MX100 with an Intel duo E6320 processor, 2GB RAM and twin 320 GB HD running under Vista. I've struggled to get my Canon i965 and Photoshop Elements 5 working, and as yet have no user guide for the monitor - the supplied disk only runs under XP would you believe! I can't read my data dumps from the old PC so am borrowing a laptop running under XP to convert files.
While messing around I decided that it would be useful to use the restore facility as in XP but found to my surprise that it is only available under Vista Ultimate that I have yet to load. What I am wondering is whether if I load Ultimate, will I have a degradation in performance? I am not into gaming.
