Trouble with installing or using vcredist_x86

So I'm not brilliant with computers, I just felt I needed to outline that from the start.

I have Windows 7 64 bit, any other specs you need to know just ask.

Here's the problem: sometimes when I try to install things on my computer I get this error saying that manual installation is required because an error occured when trying to install Visual C++ Components. I don't exactly know what it means but I still tried to fix it myself by going and installing said components myself. I went on the Windows website and looked it up and it said to download vcredist_x86.exe and run it; which I did. When I did this though it just pops up with another error saying 'Error opening log file. Verify that the specified log file exists and is writable' and there's not much I can do.

Just some advice is all I want, I can't really afford to pay for any programs so free fixes are best fixes. Many thanks.

Is it because you have 64 bit and the item you downloaded is not for a 64 bit system, only a guess.
