Speed up Vista

  domino12 11:39 08 Apr 2008

I am using a fairly powerful PC, more than is needed to run Vista Premium. I have turned off the glass effect and my PC appears to be operating much quicker. I have two questions 1)Is it truly quicker and not an illusion. And 2) Is there anything else that I can switch off for more speed gains?

Thanks in advance.

If you suspect a particular program is slowing the machine, go to Control Panel > Performance Information and Tools > Advanced Tools in the left pane. On this screen the problem is sometimes shown.

If not, click View Performance Details in Event Log. You will notice that events in the range 100-199 are boot events and can be followed by double-clicking them, then clicking Event Log Online at the bottom.
