How do I know if my laptop has been updated with the SP1?

On XP I remember that the progress bar on boot up changed colour.

Is there anything like that on Vista?

Open the System window and it will tell you about five lines down from the top if you have it.

Can't see anything that says SP1 or something associated on that

I assume you mean the 'System Information' bit that I found searching for 'system' from the start menu?

The only thing I can see that bears any resemblance to SP1 is one of the many updates that have been installed.

It says '2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 1 (SP1)'. There's two of them. both done on 18/03/08.

Is that it??

When you opened System Information at the top of the page your o/s is listed. If it says SP1 you've got it if not you ain't.

'It says '2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 1 (SP1)'. There's two of them. both done on 18/03/08.

Is that it??' No that's for Microsoft Office.

Looks like I haven't got it then...

..is that a 'bad thing'?

Start orb/run, type winver, press return.

Is it a bad thing? It's caused some people issues but that's mainly down to a specific set of drivers that need removing. If you've not been offered it by Windows Updates yet you might want to check out why not. click here

I've had it installed for a week or two now and everything seems to be working well.

Thanks for that everyone. I'll give that a shot!
