Some c: directories are shadowed on g: Want to stop it

I have multiple, separate, disks on Win8 PC If I search for a file, say "mydoc.doc", explorer will find say 4 files on various disks. If I rename the one on C: the one on G: also renames at the same time. Disks, or at leastr directories, are obviously linked but I don't know how to unlink them. This causes a serious problem when I find duplicates. The system reports the same file on c: and g:, which of course it is, but if I delete the c: file then the g: one disappears as well. This problem existed on Vista as well

Wow thanks for that. I have never heard of Junction points before. Similar in UNIX but not Windows. thanks you so much for the pointer. Got some serious reading to do now, before I start pressing any buttons! Thanks again
