Read-Only files in Nicrosoft Word

Very strange. Lots of my Word files have somehow become 'Read-only', I have never saved them deliberately as 'read-only'. It seems to have happened recently and coincides with a warning from Microsoft that appeared telling me to delete a Trial Version of Word 2010 that I didn't know I had, so I followed the screen instructions to do that (I have a perfectly legal Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010).

I now cannot edit and save any of these files.

What can I do?

I mean Microsoft, not Nicrosoft - typo

Two thing you could try.

  1. Right click on file select properties and remove the tick from read only.
  2. Open file make changes click on save and rename file you can then delete the old file.

That is the weird part - there is no tick in the 'read-only' box! Its blank, so they shouldn't be 'Read-Only'.
