Mindows media player 11 bundled with my new laptop running vista home premium can't play my AVI files.

Any idea where I can get the codecs please?

Try the VLC player, before you install go into properties of the installation file and tick run in compatability mode for XP SP2, has been working fine for me with AVI files

The k-lite codec pack worked a treat with windows media player 11 - bennyhillslove child wins the day.

VLC may be great - I'll bear it in mind for the future.

Thanks again for your help and suggestions.

Problem solved.

I am having the same problem with VISTA HP and AVI files.....They won't play. I have downloaded the K-Lite Codec pack but have not installed it yet. I was wondering if any of you who had success with this could advise me on what parameters if any need to be set once the K-Lite pack has been installed??
