I have unallocated partitions on my pc, how can i return them to the main disk, for use generally? They were used for acronis, but do not need them now.

I am back again! tried as you suggested, did not show shrink or expand, only reduce volume and help. This partition is unallocated this must be the difference.

On looking, even though it is unallocated, it reads as master boot record[ which was connected with Acronis. Not being used now

Have you stored the Acronis images there and are they still there ?

Is Acronis still on the pc,and was this the download version ? you may have to uninstall Acronis first if indeed on the pc,im guessing here...its the secure zone.

Acronis is on my pc ,it had XP secured on it, i thought i had deleted it,i used to get a f11 prompt on boot up but not now.I have the CD for acronis would it be better to uninstall the programme?and start again.Would it use the same partition or try to create another one?
