new vista PC security and transferring programmes

I am expecting to take delivery of new Vista PC using 64 bit Home Premium shortly. Currently have XP SP2 etc.system about 6 years old.

I want to transfer my documents and most programmes (obviously not the OS) and set up decent security before connecting to broadband. Regarding Anti spyware currently using PC Tools Spyware Doctor also Eset NOD 32 AV and Zonealarm. It does not seem Spyware Doctor supports 64 bit OS at present. Kaspersky does, I think, but is a full package of anti spyware, AV and firewall. Am quite happy with NOD 32.
Any suggestions both for transferring selected files, programmes, settings and how to address security before connecting to the Internet?
Grateful for any advice-I suspect others have had a similar issue to address.

Download NOD32 to a flash drive and install from that. Use vista firewall you really don't need another firewall.

rawprawn thanks for that. I assumed the Vista firewall would need upgrading.

Not really necessary, I found Vista Firewall quite adequate.
