I have decided to install version2 from the Microsoft site.
There are two downloads available one with amd64 in the title the other x86.
I am running the 32bit version of W7.
My processor is an AMD Athlon64.
Which is the applicable download?

32bit .its the operating system that dictates what drivers .
although from memory ,the windows site will automatically give you the right one for your machine normally .

Thanks,
I asked the question because the CPU is an AMD64 configuration and not x86. There was no reference on that MS site to 32 or 64 bit.
I tried a different MS site which only differentiated between 32 and 64 bit. The 32 bit version installed without problem.

x86 indicates a 32bit programme in W7. I have the 64 bit W7 but many programmes still run in 32 bit and are found in C:/Programme Files(x86) (as well, in W7 64 as 64 bit programmes in C:\Programme Files.

What's the reason for using x86 to indicate 32 bit?

From Wikipedia...
The term x86 refers to a family of instruction set architectures[2] based on the Intel 8086 CPU. The 8086 was launched in 1978 as a fully 16-bit extension of Intel's early 8-bit based microprocessors and also introduced segmentation to overcome the 16-bit addressing barrier of earlier chips. The term x86 derived from the fact that early successors to the 8086 also had names ending in "86". Many additions and extensions have been added to the x86 instruction set over the years, almost consistently with full backward compatibility.[3] The architecture has been implemented in processors from Intel, Cyrix, AMD, VIA, and many others.

hence your 32 bit OS being refered to as X86.
As John bunyan said if you run a 64bit OS you will find an X86 program files folder ,this is for the 32bit programs that are run in compatibility mode .

The MSE version marked amd64 is the 64 bit version if you try to install the x86 32 bit version of MSE on a 64 bit OS it will error out and abort the install

Cheers HC
