Can anybody advise how to do the above? If possible a step by step process would be useful. I have a portable USB DVD drive or presumably I can boot from a USB to access the install files? If it helps it is the Samsung NP900X3E-A03UK.

This article shows some of the pitfalls in doing so.

The word downgrade was probably used in error as the laptop came installed with Windows 8 which I upgraded to 8.1. I want to keep the 8.1 partition with the install files in case I decide to go back in the future. I have a copy of Windows 7 somewhere but kris594, what did you have in mind? In the meantime I am trying to make 8.1 look like 7 but installing Classic Shell and tweaking it slightly.

And if you do decide to dual boot then here is a step by step guide

If you dont have a full purchased version of windows 7 you can use a program called windows loader. Let me know if you need one
