Connecting XP PC to Vista PC - Username & Password

Hi all, I've managed to set up a network between a vista desktop and an XP laptop.

The Vista machine can see and access the files on the XP laptop, and although the XP laptop can see the Vista desktop, when I try to access the shared folder it asks for username and password.

The Vista desktop doesn't have login credentials set up though, how do I sort this?

inside the 'public sharing' folder?

Ah no, I just set them to be shared. I thought the Public Sharing folder related to the 'Public' Network option, which I've not selected, but instead 'Private'.

Surely everything to be accessed from another PC doesn't have to go in the Public Folder? As there are a huge amount of mp3's, sitting on an external drive, that also need to be made available. MS wouldn't expect me to duplicate all of these, just for the purpose of sharing... would they?

Then again, you never know (or at least, I don't!)
