Best setup process - new notebook with Vista

  ribbony 11:43 08 Feb 2008

I have just bought a Acer Aspire 3863 notebook that comes with Vista Home Basic. I have not tried to start it up yet.

Should I just follow the prompts or are there tweeks that I should do along the way. I will be doing office type programs, surf the web and eventually use it for GPS charting and photo editing.

Should I prevent it from installing anyparticular components ?

Any tips and tweeks appreciated.

Get it fired up, think about tweeks and adjustments once you have experienced Vista as it is oroginally intended.

There are plenty of tips and tweeks and this site can help you if you think there are things you would like to change.

From start up the strong thing I would recommend is to go through the crap ware which some PC manufacturers put on and ditch things you do not need or like.

The other thing is much of the crap ware sets itself up to lauch at boot thereby slowing up your PC. To control this there is a useful facility in the Control Panel to deal with many but not all programs which start at boot. the main way to control startup programs is click here
