Backup a FAT32 usb drive in Win7

  nottmsteve 17:07 17 Aug 2010

Hi all

Just got my new PC with Win7 64bit.

I work from home and have all my work related correspondence on an external drive secured by Truecrypt. I used to back this up nightly with Vista without problem, but now I find that Win 7 won'tlet me.

Does anyone know a way around this, or software that will do it?

Thanks very much

What error message/s are you getting?
Is your external drive being recognized?
Have you tried running the backup in XP compatibility mode?
Have you updated your Truecrypt driver?

Found this on the Truecrypt website:

Does TrueCrypt support the 64-bit editions of Windows 7/Vista?

Yes. Note: The 64-bit TrueCrypt driver is digitally signed with the digital certificate of the TrueCrypt Foundation, which was issued by the certification authority GlobalSign.

It was nothing to do with error messages or anything - just that you can't backup FAT32 drives.

I've solved it now, but not in a way I wanted. I dragged everything off the drive, re-formatted to NTFS, and put everything bcak on it.

Now it backs up!

I guess there will be some problem with USB drivers, scan your USB and check out the status again
