Why Do TV Listing.............

  morddwyd 15:28 22 Nov 2010

...........magazines start the day at 6.00am instead of midnight?

I can understand them starting the week on a Saturday, because most people regard Friday as the end of the week.

I can understand newspapers publishing times and schedules to correspond with their own currency.

However, I simply cannot understand why for the rest of the world Tuesday starts at midnight and finishes at midnight 24 hours later, but for TV mags Tuesday starts at 6.00am and finishes at 6.00am on Wednesday!

It's the BBC to blame.

Official BBC policy is that the week starts on a Saturday and the day starts at 6am

When I was at work on 24/7 shift pattern, the 'day' started at 6am and the week on a Monday.

I don't know about 6.00am, but the listings I use to be able to get with a Saturday morning newspaper, are no longer available. Freeview is a typical mystery now :o(

Tv used to turn off till 6am at one stage so I would guess its a hang over from that system.

You STILL use a TV Listing mag ?

I think 'Jameslayer' has got it in one. TV used to finish at around midnight so you could rush home from the pub after closing time ( anyone remember that ) and catch a 'late' night film.

We buy Radio Times & TV Times every week.
There's interesting articles and background on programmes.

"TV used to finish at around midnight"

You've just destroyed your own argument!

If TV finished at midnight, that was the end of the day.

Time to start a new one.

In any event, before that TV used to start around 5.00pm with children's programmes.

Why do we not still start the listings at that time?

I miss standing up for royalty at the end of the evenings viewing, plus the tuning cards :O((

'I miss standing up for royalty at the end of the evenings viewing'

My grandfather use to do that,...I only did it at the cinema
