Why aren't LED bulbs made in the UK

They use far less energy than compact fluorecents. This is a small manufacturer I've found Kypai

An Ebay source I use

If they can offer free delivery from Hong Kong, we should make our own. And surely now is the time to get rid of the Sodium Vapor street lights?

we should make our own

We do, there are several UK companies specialising in manufacturing LED lighting.

Then why can't we buy them in supermarkets and DIY stores?

On your second point see here

On your main point see here i have fitted my camper van with LED lighting and it is far better the the fluorescent tubes I had before.

Same reason as we don't make much else in the UK anymore.

Labour costs and taxes are too high.

wiz-king, thanks, but have you seen the prices?

Better value on eBay

"Why aren't LED bulbs made in the UK". And the answer might be a very simple one regarding cost and expertise.

There are many of the well known old name brands that have now left the UK on its manufacturing side. In my location, I know of at least two who were big employers in the manufacture of lighting. Their UK workforce is no longer, and their massive work sites are now used for housing and other amenities.

With regards to LED purchases and general small electronic goods, I make quite a number of purchases via eBay and the like. Prices cannot be bettered, unless you use a local £1.00 shop?.

Only problem with Far East for an individual purchaser, is the delivery and waiting time. If you want the item quick, then perhaps Maplins or similar and pay the very higher price perhaps?.

wiz-king.

Like you I have fitted my mobile home/camper van with quite a few battery operated LED lights. These are ideal in the wardrobe space and under the beds in various cupboards etc. I've not replaced a battery in three years.

By the way it seems there are other camper van enthusiasts on this forum, I wonder if they use them. I saw one a couple of weeks ago and it looked like a night out in Blackpool it had so many LED lights on and in it.

LED lighting is now moving into photography and studio lighting, so many benifits. Lighter, cooler, more efficent and LED lighting is pretty much near the same colour temperture as daylight, its a great technology which seems to have taken its time being developed.
