I have googled, tried specialist sites that I know of and been to the library but I can find out very little about this artist.

I have come across a couple of his sketches from Silverstone in 1949 and am interested to find out more about the chap.

I know this is primarily a computer forum but I am also aware of the vast interests of forum members, especially Formula 1.

I don’t know whether this artist specialised in F1 but the only sites I can find where he is mentioned appear to be wanting money and even then the info is limited.

Maybe he is still alive and someone knows,/is related to him?

Try using the correct surname in Google searches i.e. Thockold.

The Brigadier I am trying those Forums but have not had any success in searching. I joined a Forum click here which has a nostalgic section but their moderators have been slow and have not accepted me yet.

Stuartli I am looking at his signature and it definitely has an 'S' on the end. Although it doesn't seem to matter click here=

The problem is with many of these artist's, is their works are not really well known, hence the lack of information.

I have a fair collection of various original art works, many picked up from my travels. Most of these were usually obtained via 'curiosity' shops or local artists, selling off some of their collections. Even eBay have various artist's selling their own works, and I have purchased a few of these 'masterpieces' over the years. Even one of these eBay contacts proved an experience in itself. A local (unknown) spare time pleasure artist who work consists mainly of local wildlife, sold me some of her superb 'surplus' work recently. A true treasure to behold, and perhaps worthy of a fortune in years to come ;O)

The only advice that I can offer, is for you to contact your local library, museum and ask the staff there, or contact a local club, training college. The other alternative is to perhaps contact one of the specialist auction houses or Guilds.

I found 'Battle of Britain Aircraft Print by Ray Thockards' on Ebay - it didn't sell - there were no bids The print shows a German Luftwaffe bomber that has been shot down in a field over Kent click here

and on artnet.com a poster of Japanese aircraft in thick of battle click here

(Bear in mind that the above are prints/posters not original paintings)

Looks like the name has died out, not on the South African, New Zealand or Australian white pages - thats all I have on my list.

I was bored today and looked around some more, no trace on British electoral rolls for the last few years, or on Face book, My Spaces, Linkedin or in the white pages for UK, Canada, USA, Holland, Switzerland, Germany or France.
